WHAT IS BOWEN THERAPY

Bowen is a holistic, soft tissue therapy involving gentle, but purposeful rolling movements over muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves.  These movements impact the whole body, beginning the healing process and returning the body to its natural alignment.

During the session, short breaks are placed between specific moves, where the therapist leaves the room. This time allows the client to relax and the  body to integrate the treatment.

Bowen does not force muscles back into place, instead it stimulates the muscles to realign themselves, making this a safe treatment for babies right through to the elderly.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM BOWEN

AFTERCARE

  • A treatment will take 45 minutes to 60 minutes for an adult.

  • Bowen works best on bare skin (underwear stays on), sarongs are used for modesty, however Bowen is also effective through light clothing that is loose or stretchy.

  • The treatment involves pressure against muscles, ligaments, and tendons, then gently rolling over the area. Throughout the treatment, there are short breaks between specific moves, where I will leave the room.  This allows the body to integrate the moves and begin the natural healing process.

  • It is best not to have any other treatments or therapies for 4 days before your Bowen.

  • Make sure you move around every 30 minutes after your session, if seated for long periods.

  • Do not have any other therapies or treatments for 4-5 days after Bowen, as this disrupts the natural healing process.

  • Do not apply cold or hot packs.

  • Avoid hot showers or baths.

  • Drink plenty of water to rehydrate.
